Allegro Participates in "Walking Buddies"

Orange Park, Florida - February 1, 2010

The Allegro at Fleming Island will be participating in the "Walking Buddies" program. This is a statewide initiative to reduce falls and brain injuries for people over the age of 60. This program will pair a group of students from the University of North Florida with the residents of the Allegro. Each student will come to the Allegro weekly to walk and visit with"their" resident of "Walking Buddy."

The Walking Buddies Program will benefit Allegro residents while promoting health and wellness, reducing fall risk, and improving mental health. Since residents are paired up one-on-one with the students, it builds an intergenerational friendship which reduces isolation and promotes socialization. The Walking Buddies program begins in February and will last 12 weeks. This program will provide enjoyment and exercise for the Allegro residents as well as teach the students about the senior lifestyle.

The Allegro at Fleming Island offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care to seniors seeking an independent and active lifestyle.
